After a stunning Hollywood career that spanned decades, actor Michael Douglas devastated fans when he announced he is retiring from acting.<\/p>\n

At the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, where he was presenting a newly restored print of\u00a0One Flew Over the Cuckoo\u2019s Nest<\/em>, the\u00a0Wall Street\u00a0<\/em>star\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0reporters, \u201cI have not worked since 2022 purposefully because I realized I had to stop.\u201d<\/p>\n

Douglas was answering questions about his career when he revealed he\u2019s stepping away from the big screen. \u201cI had been working pretty hard for almost 60 years, and I did not want to be one of those people who dropped dead on the set,\u201d\u00a0he said. \u201cI say I\u2019m not retired because if something special came up, I\u2019d go back, but otherwise, no.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans were quick to share their thoughts on his decision. \u201cMichael Douglas announced he\u2019s retiring from acting at age 80,\u201d one X user wrote. \u201cIf this is actually it & if we never see Douglas on screen again, it\u2019s been one hell of a ride. All Douglas did in the last 50 years was make hits & take risks. There is no \u2018next Michael Douglas\u2019. He\u2019s one of one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another person wrote, \u201cEnd of an era, but what an actor, what a star,\u201d while a third added: \u201cWow, end of an era! Michael Douglas, what a legend. Wishing him a happy retirement!\u201d<\/p>\n

Douglas last appeared on screen in\u00a0Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania<\/em>\u00a0(2023) and\u00a0Franklin<\/em>\u00a0(2024), both filmed in 2021. He hasn\u2019t acted since.<\/h2>\n

Douglas also mentioned working on \u201cone little independent movie,\u201d trying to \u201cget a good script out of,\u201d but with no additional work lined up.<\/p>\n

However, while he might never do any new films, his fans still get to see what\u2019s he\u2019s been up to nowadays thanks to his social media posts through which he offers glimpses into his daily life.<\/p>\n

One particular video Douglas shared on Independence Day, resonated deeply with many and went viral in no time. Not only the video gathered many views and admiration, but also plenty of comments. While many praised him for the video, his acting, and the genuine person he is, they also couldn\u2019t help but make comments about his look. A number of people wrote that the actor, who is currently 80 years old, aged visibly. \u201cI didn\u2019t recognize him!\u201d one person commented.<\/p>\n

In 2010, Douglas was\u00a0diagnosed with stage four throat cancer<\/a>\u00a0and had to undergo a gruelling course of radiation and chemotherapy. He was given 80% chance of recovery.<\/p>\n

Speaking of his disease, the\u00a0Fatal Attraction\u00a0<\/em>star told\u00a0Guardian<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>that the cancer was caused by a sexually transmitted disease. \u201cWithout wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV (human papillomavirus),\u201d he said. \u201cI did worry if the stress caused by my son\u2019s incarceration didn\u2019t help trigger it. But it\u2019s a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Currently, he\u2019s enjoying his life and supporting his wife\u2019s acting career.<\/p>\n
