That night, when Dad asked me to sleep in his room, he hadn’t been asking his thirteen-year-old daughter to protect him.<\/p>\n

He was terrified that someone might come for me while he slept.<\/p>\n

He wanted me close enough that if anything happened, he could reach me immediately.<\/p>\n
