\u201cWhat hurt me last night wasn\u2019t what she said. It was that you smiled.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI was uncomfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThen say that. Don\u2019t sit there smiling while your mother announces ownership of the house we spent thirteen years paying for.\u201d<\/p>\n
He looked ashamed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI spent my whole life taking care of you.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI know. But that doesn\u2019t mean you get to decide where you live without asking the people who already live there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her face reddened.<\/p>\n
