Lunch overlooking the ocean.<\/p>\n

“Your childcare arrangements have already been made.”<\/strong><\/p>\n “I never booked this,” I said.<\/p>\n “I know you didn’t!” Macy snapped. “Daniel did!”<\/p>\n Almost on cue, there was another later, Daniel opened the balcony door.<\/p>\n “Mom?”<\/p>\n I stepped back inside.<\/p>\n He smiled gently.<\/p>\n “I have something to tell you.”<\/p>\n “What is it?”<\/p>\n He handed me another envelope.<\/p>\n Inside were two tickets.<\/p>\n A dolphin-watching cruise for that afternoon.<\/p>\n Just the two of us.<\/p>\n “And who’s watching the kids?” I asked.<\/p>\n Daniel glanced at serious.”<\/p>\n “I’ve already spoken with the kids.”<\/p>\n “They’re excited.”<\/p>\n She looked at me.<\/p>\n Then back at him.<\/p>\n “You chose your mother over your wife?”<\/p>\n Daniel sighed.<\/p>\n “This isn’t about choosing sides.”<\/p>\n “It’s about respect.”<\/p>\n “You disrespected the woman who sacrificed everything so I could have the life I have today.”<\/p>\n “And I won’t pretend that’s acceptable.”<\/p>\n The next two days were very different.<\/p>\n For the first time since we’d arrived, I walked barefoot along the beach without worrying about anyone else’s schedule.<\/p>\n I watched the sunrise over the ocean.<\/p>\n Collected seashells with no rush.<\/p>\n Read a novel beneath an umbrella.<\/p>\n Even took the dolphin cruise.<\/p>\n I cried quietly when I first saw the dolphins breaking through the waves.<\/p>\n Not because of the dolphins.<\/p>\n Because I finally understood what it felt like to rest without feeling guilty.<\/p>\n Meanwhile,
