He muttered something under his breath, turned, and walked back toward his house.<\/p>\n
As soon as he left, I called 911.<\/p>\n
I explained exactly what had happened.<\/p>\n
I was careful not to make accusations I couldn’t prove.<\/p>\n
I simply reported what the girls had told me, how frightened they appeared, and that they had been hiding inside my trash can asking me not to let him find them.<\/p>\n
Officers arrived within minutes.<\/p>\n
A specially trained officer spoke with Lily and Lucy while another officer contacted their mother at work.<\/p>\n
When she arrived, she looked shocked to find police cars outside.<\/p>\n
The officers spoke with both parents separately.<\/p>\n
Later, one of the officers thanked me for calling instead of assuming everything was fine.<\/p>\n

Several months later, I saw Lily and Lucy again.<\/p>\n
They were playing in the front yard of a different house with their mother nearby.<\/p>\n
