Marina slowly opened the folder.<\/p>\n

Neither Bogdan nor Lydia spoke.<\/p>\n

She removed the first document and slid it across the table.<\/p>\n

Bogdan frowned.<\/p>\n

“What is this?”<\/p>\n

“The deed to this apartment.”<\/p>\n

He barely glanced at it.<\/p>\n

“So?”<\/p>\n

“You should read the owner’s name.”<\/p>\n

His expression slowly changed.<\/p>\n

“It… says your name.”<\/p>\n

“Only mine.”<\/p>\n

Silence filled the room.<\/p>\n

Lydia leaned forward and grabbed the document.<\/p>\n

“That’s impossible.”<\/p>\n

“It was purchased before our marriage,” Marina replied calmly.<\/p>\n

“I paid for it with money my grandmother left me.”<\/p>\n

Bogdan looked confused.<\/p>\n

“But… I thought…”<\/p>\n

“You never asked.”<\/p>\n

She reached into the folder again.<\/p>\n

“This is the second document.”<\/p>\n

He looked down.<\/p>\n

A notarized notice.<\/p>\n

His eyes widened.<\/p>\n

“Divorce?”<\/p>\n

“Yes.”<\/p>\n

Lydia jumped to her feet.<\/p>\n

“You ungrateful woman!”<\/p>\n

Marina ignored her.<\/p>\n

“The third document is a restraining order request.”<\/p>\n

Both of them froze.<\/p>\n

“It includes photographs.”<\/p>\n

Medical reports.<\/p>\n

Audio recordings.<\/p>\n

Security-camera footage.<\/p>\n

And written statements from neighbors who had repeatedly witnessed Lydia’s abuse.<\/p>\n

“You’ve been collecting this?”<\/p>\n

“For eighteen months.”<\/p>\n

Lydia’s voice shook.<\/p>\n

“You planned this?”<\/p>\n

“No.”<\/p>\n

“I hoped things would change.”<\/p>\n

“But this morning…”<\/p>\n

She gently touched the bruise forming near her temple.<\/p>\n

“…you made the decision for me.”<\/p>\n

Bogdan finally found his voice.<\/p>\n

“Marina… we can talk.”<\/p>\n

She looked at him quietly.<\/p>\n

“I tried talking.”<\/p>\n

“You stayed silent.”<\/p>\n

“I cried.”<\/p>\n

“You looked away.”<\/p>\n

“Your mother insulted me.”<\/p>\n

“You defended her.”<\/p>\n

Lydia slammed her hand on the table.<\/p>\n

“You’ll regret this!”<\/p>\n

Marina smiled for the first time that day.<\/p>\n

“No.”<\/p>\n

“You will.”<\/p>\n

Just then, the apartment buzzer rang.<\/p>\n

Bogdan walked to the intercom.<\/p>\n

Two police officers.<\/p>\n

A court officer.<\/p>\n

And Marina’s attorney.<\/p>\n

Lydia’s confidence disappeared instantly.<\/p>\n

“What are they doing here?”<\/p>\n
