The next morning, I walked across the street to speak with another neighbor, Frank.<\/p>\n
He’d lived there almost as long as I had.<\/p>\n
“Have they done anything like this to you?” I asked.<\/p>\n
He chuckled.<\/p>\n
“They tried parking in front of my mailbox once. I shut that down fast.”<\/p>\n
I looked back at the truck sitting on my grass.<\/p>\n
“I’ve asked nicely twice.”<\/p>\n
Frank nodded.<\/p>\n

My neighbors laughed when they saw them.<\/p>\n
The husband leaned against his truck and smirked.<\/p>\n
“Those signs aren’t going to stop us.”<\/p>\n
I simply smiled.<\/p>\n
“We’ll see.”<\/p>\n

Right back on my lawn.<\/p>\n
This time, I didn’t call them.<\/p>\n
I called the non-emergency police line and the towing company listed by the city for unauthorized vehicles on private property.<\/p>\n
Within forty minutes, the tow truck arrived.<\/p>\n
The driver checked my identification, confirmed the property lines, and hooked up the pickup.<\/p>\n
Just as he started lifting it, my neighbors came running outside.<\/p>\n
“Hey!” the husband shouted. “You can’t do that!”<\/p>\n
The tow truck driver didn’t even look up.<\/p>\n
“Take it up with the city.”<\/p>\n
His wife pointed at me.<\/p>\n
“You could’ve just talked to us!”<\/p>\n
I answered calmly.<\/p>\n
“I did. Three times.”<\/p>\n
The truck disappeared down the street.<\/p>\n

A week later, a landscaping company repaired the damaged section of my yard.<\/p>\n
I saved every receipt.<\/p>\n
Then I filed a claim in small claims court for the cost of restoring the lawn.<\/p>\n
The judge listened to both sides.<\/p>\n
My neighbors insisted it wasn’t a big deal.<\/p>\n
I presented dated photographs showing the healthy grass before they moved in, the repeated damage afterward, copies of the code violation, the towing records, and the landscaping bill.<\/p>\n
The judge barely needed ten minutes.<\/p>\n
He ordered them to reimburse me for the repairs.<\/p>\n
Outside the courthouse, the wife muttered, “This was completely unnecessary.”<\/p>\n
I looked at her and replied, “Respecting someone else’s property would’ve been much easier.”<\/p>\n
By the end of the summer, a short decorative fence bordered the front of my lawn.<\/p>\n
It wasn’t there because I expected more trouble.<\/p>\n

A few months later, the neighbors finally expanded their driveway.<\/p>\n
