A letter from the clinic.<\/p>\n
It explained that an unauthorized consent form had been submitted and immediately flagged during routine verification. No procedure had ever been scheduled because the consent had been deemed invalid.<\/p>\n
“The embryo is still frozen,” Ryan said quietly.<\/p>\n
“No transfer ever happened.”<\/p>\n
I blinked.<\/p>\n
“But… the crib…”<\/p>\n
“I bought it because I hoped you’d eventually say yes.”<\/p>\n

I nodded slowly.<\/p>\n
“No… they shouldn’t have.”<\/p>\n
The next morning, I met with the fertility specialist alone.<\/p>\n
She carefully explained every option.<\/p>\n
There was no pressure.<\/p>\n
No deadlines anymore.<\/p>\n

When I asked about the forged signature, she assured me the clinic had already opened an internal investigation to determine who had submitted the false paperwork.<\/p>\n
