Ryan crossed his arms.<\/p>\n
“Because it’s obvious.”<\/p>\n
Daniel nodded.<\/p>\n
“Actually… you’re half right.”<\/p>\n
My heart stopped.<\/p>\n
What was he doing?<\/p>\n
“I was hired,” Daniel continued calmly.<\/p>\n
“I was hired to spend the afternoon with a woman who forgot how incredible she is because someone spent years convincing her she wasn’t.”<\/p>\n
The backyard fell silent.<\/p>\n
Ryan rolled his eyes.<\/p>\n

Ryan looked horrified.<\/p>\n
“How do you know that?”<\/p>\n
I stared at Daniel.<\/p>\n
“I told him,” Ryan’s mother said softly.<\/p>\n
Everyone turned.<\/p>\n
She stood from her chair.<\/p>\n
“I told him because someone needed to remember the truth.”<\/p>\n
She walked over to me.<\/p>\n
“I watched this woman love my son when he didn’t deserve it.”<\/p>\n
