“I almost mailed them,” she said. “But she specifically wrote that she wanted someone to place the first one on your porch after their tenth birthday party.”<\/p>\n

Inside the smaller box were three velvet pouches.<\/p>\n

Each girl opened one.<\/p>\n

They found matching silver lockets.<\/p>\n

Inside every locket was a tiny photograph of their mother and a short handwritten note.<\/p>\n

The girls cried as they held the lockets against their hearts.<\/p>\n

That night, we sat together on the couch reading the letter over and over.<\/p>\n
