Not Stacey.<\/p>\n

My knees felt weak.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry,\u201d she added, kneeling down to Luke\u2019s level. \u201cI\u2019m not your mom, sweetheart.\u201d<\/p>\n

Luke pulled back, his little face crumbling.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut\u2026 you look like her,\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know,\u201d she said softly. \u201cSometimes that happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

I stepped closer, trying to steady my breathing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry,\u201d I said, running a hand through my hair. \u201cYou just\u2026 you look exactly like my wife.\u201d<\/p>\n

She gave a small, understanding nod.<\/p>\n

\u201cI get that a lot,\u201d she said quietly. \u201cMore than you\u2019d think.\u201d<\/p>\n

Something about the way she said it made me pause.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was adopted,\u201d she said. \u201cI found out a few years ago I had a twin sister.\u201d<\/p>\n

My heart skipped.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was named\u2026 Stacey.\u201d<\/p>\n
