That\u2019s when something inside me snapped.<\/p>\n
All the embarrassment\u2026 all the anger\u2026 it came rushing out at once.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo,\u201d I said, my voice shaking but loud enough for everyone to hear. \u201cHe\u2019s not.\u201d<\/p>\n
Every head turned toward me.<\/p>\n
Jake looked at me like he didn\u2019t recognize me anymore.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt wasn\u2019t funny,\u201d I continued. \u201cI told you before the wedding I didn\u2019t want that. I said it clearly.\u201d<\/p>\n
He hesitated.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re making a big deal out of nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n
I let out a bitter laugh.<\/p>\n
\u201cNothing? You just humiliated me in front of everyone I care about.\u201d<\/p>\n
My mom stood up slowly, tears in her eyes.<\/p>\n
\u201cSweetheart\u2026\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n
I wiped my face as best as I could, smearing frosting even more.<\/p>\n
