Daniels scoffed. \u201cWow. She\u2019s got attitude.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jordan reached into her bag slowly.<\/p>\n
Both officers stiffened slightly, watching her hands.<\/p>\n
She pulled out a small leather wallet.<\/p>\n
Opened it.<\/p>\n
But instead of showing it to them, she simply held it in her hand.<\/p>\n
\u201cI asked you a question,\u201d she said calmly. \u201cAre you done?\u201d<\/p>\n
Miller\u2019s smile faded just a little.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll decide when I\u2019m done.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jordan nodded once.<\/p>\n
Then she turned \u2014 not toward them, but toward the courthouse entrance.<\/p>\n
Glass doors.<\/p>\n
Inside, people were already moving. Clerks, attorneys, security.<\/p>\n
And right on schedule, the doors opened again.<\/p>\n
A court officer stepped out.<\/p>\n
Then another.<\/p>\n
And behind them \u2014 the Chief Clerk.<\/p>\n
\u201cGood morning, Judge Hayes!\u201d the clerk called out, loud enough to carry.<\/p>\n
Everything froze.<\/p>\n
Daniels blinked.<\/p>\n
Miller didn\u2019t move at all.<\/p>\n
Jordan turned back slowly.<\/p>\n
Now she opened the wallet.<\/p>\n
This time, she held it up.<\/p>\n
Clear. Undeniable.<\/p>\n
\u201cJudge Jordan Hayes,\u201d she said evenly. \u201cDistrict Court.\u201d<\/p>\n
Silence dropped like a hammer.<\/p>\n
Daniels took a step back first.<\/p>\n
His grin was gone.<\/p>\n
Miller\u2019s face drained of color, the confidence leaking out of him in seconds.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes,\u201d Jordan cut in, not raising her voice.<\/p>\n

The Chief Clerk was already walking toward them, confusion turning into concern.<\/p>\n

Jordan didn\u2019t answer right away.<\/p>\n
She kept her eyes on Miller.<\/p>\n
The same man who, just moments ago, had tried to push her out like she didn\u2019t belong.<\/p>\n
She could have humiliated him.<\/p>\n
Raised her voice.<\/p>\n
