Each morning the judge was enraged that the coffee cup arrived two-thirds full. The clerk explained that he had to rush to get the coffee delivered while it was still hot, which caused him to spill much of it along the way.<\/p>\n
None of the judge\u2019s yelling and insults produced a full cup of coffee, until he finally threatened to cut the clerk\u2019s pay by one-third if he continued to produce one-third less than the judge wanted.<\/p>\n
The next morning he was greeted with a cup of coffee that was full to the brim, and the next morning and the morning after that. The judge couldn\u2019t resist gloating over his success and smugly complimented the clerk on his new technique.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, there\u2019s not much to it,\u201d admitted the clerk happily, \u201cI take some coffee in my mouth right outside the coffee room, and spit it back in when I get outside your office.\u201d<\/p>\n
He charged that she had called him a pig.<\/p>\n
She was found guilty and fined.<\/p>\n
After the trial, she asked the judge: \u201cDoes this mean I cannot call Mr. Johnson a pig?\u201d<\/p>\n
The judge said that was true.<\/p>\n
\u201cDoes this mean I cannot call a pig Mr. Johnson?\u201d asked the woman.<\/p>\n
The judge replied that she could indeed call a pig Mr. Johnson with no fear of being charged with a crime.<\/p>\n
The woman turned, looked directly at Mr. Johnson, and said,\u00a0\u201cGood afternoon, Mr. Johnson.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n This man knows his co-worker to be a normally conservative fellow, and is curious about his sudden change in \u201cfashion sense.\u201d<\/p>\n The man walks up to him and says, \u201cI didn\u2019t know you were into earrings.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cDon\u2019t make such a big deal out of this, it\u2019s only an earring,\u201d he replies sheepishly.<\/p>\n His friend falls silent for a few minutes, but then his curiosity prods him to say: \u201cSo, how long have you been wearing one?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEver since my wife found it in my truck.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The young clerk\u2019s responsibilities included bringing the judge a hot cup of coffee at the start of every day.
