He works on the farm, while I take care of the garden and household. My mother-in-law lives in the city with her younger son — and honestly, my relationship with her has never been good. From the very first day, she didn’t like me. Either a critical look or biting remarks. But I swallowed it. For my husband’s sake. Besides, the distance helped — we rarely saw each other.

But recently, out of the blue, she said she wanted “to get away from the city’s hustle” and came to stay with us for a week. She said she missed us. I felt it wouldn’t be good, but again — my husband insisted.

From the very first days, she began lecturing me. Nothing was right: the soup too salty, the curtains wrinkled, and in her opinion, the upbringing of our five-year-old daughter was completely wrong. She constantly provoked conflicts, and at one point she even managed to make us argue with each other. I couldn’t take it anymore and cried at night. I just wanted it all to end quickly.

When she finally left, I breathed a sigh of relief. But the next day something strange began.

Our dog, Baks — a gentle and extremely intelligent animal — suddenly started acting weird. He growled at an empty area of the garden, ran in circles, then began scratching the ground near one of the beds, barking and digging with his paws. I tried to pull him away — he didn’t listen. He stared straight at me and continued.

The next day, the same thing. I couldn’t take it anymore — I grabbed a shovel. My heart was pounding: a dog doesn’t act like that without a reason. Something was troubling him. I began digging exactly where he was barking.

And then the ground collapsed. I froze. From the earth came out…

…a black sack. Tied. With my heart in my throat, I pulled it out.

Inside — a horrifying smell and strange things: clumps of hair, an old child’s dress (that wasn’t our daughter’s!), a doll with its head broken off, and a bundle of photographs of me, my husband, and our daughter… but with the eyes scratched out.

A cold shiver ran through my whole body. I realized it was something connected to witchcraft, maybe a curse. Who could do such a thing?

The only answer was — my mother-in-law. She was the only one who had been in the yard, the only one who could have buried that sack while I was in the kitchen or busy with our daughter.

I didn’t know what to do. I took everything to the church. The priest said it was a “work meant to break apart the family.”

I don’t believe in such things, but everything that had happened with the dog and my mother-in-law’s behavior in recent days… it all fit into a sinister picture.

From that moment, I forbade her to set foot in our home again. I told my husband everything. At first he didn’t believe me, but when he saw the photos and the sack — which I had kept as proof — he stayed silent for a long time.

And since then, the dog sleeps only at the door, as if guarding us.

I don’t know what exactly my mother-in-law intended, but I am certain of one thing: she will never step into our yard again.

What do you think, am I exaggerating? Or could it be something else?

My mother-in-law came to visit, and after she left, the dog started growling and scratching the ground: I began digging where he was barking and found something horrifying 😱😱 My husband and I live in a quiet village.
