My husband and I were busy with chores around the house and left our four-year-old son, who is paralyzed, together with our Doberman named Tara \ud83d\ude32\ud83d\ude32 Who could have guessed what was going to happen half an hour later\u2026<\/p>\n
At first, our child and the dog were playing happily, but after a few minutes we heard a loud, chilling bark. My husband and I rushed outside in a panic, thinking that Tara might have hurt our child, but what we saw shook us to the core\u2026<\/p>\n
We left our disabled son together with the Doberman, and half an hour later we heard the dog\u2019s chilling bark.<\/p>\n
Our son was born with a serious diagnosis \u2014 a disability affecting the locomotor system. By the age of three, he still couldn\u2019t walk.<\/p>\n
The doctors said there was a chance that one day he might get up on his feet, but it was a very small one. We clung to that hope with all our strength.<\/p>\n
Every day we prayed, we watched him crawl around the house, looking sadly out the window at other children. He had no one to play with \u2014 children his age didn\u2019t understand his condition, and we, the adults, could not replace a true friend.<\/p>\n
So we made a decision \u2014 to get a dog. We wanted him to at least have one true friend. We chose a Doberman from a shelter. We named her Tara.<\/p>\n
At first, Tara kept her distance. She avoided us and, especially, avoided our son. We were already thinking we had made a mistake. But then everything changed.<\/p>\n
Tara began to come closer to the boy, to sit next to him, she allowed him to touch her muzzle, she brought him toys. They became friends. They became inseparable.<\/p>\n
For the first time in a long while, we, the parents, felt relief. Our boy was smiling, laughing \u2014 and all thanks to this dog. We began to trust Tara so much that we calmly left them alone in the yard while we took care of the household chores.<\/p>\n
And then one day\u2026<\/p>\n
A piercing, heartbreaking bark shook the house. It was so powerful that it froze the blood in our veins. We rushed outside in panic, fearing the worst. We were afraid that Tara had hurt our son. But what we saw shook us to the depths of our souls.<\/p>\n
Our four-year-old boy was standing. HE WAS STANDING, leaning on the stroller. His knees were trembling, his hands were gripping the handles tightly, and next to him was Tara, barking \u2014 as if calling us, as if shouting: \u201cLook! Look what he managed to do!\u201d<\/p>\n
We burst into tears. We both ran to our son. He looked at us, frightened, but in his eyes shone something new \u2014 confidence, strength.<\/p>\n
