On a flight, my daughter leaned over and whispered, “Dad, I think I just got my period.” I handed her the emergency pad I always keep in my bag, and she rushed to the restroom.

A few minutes later, a flight attendant came up to me and said, “Sir, your daughter asked if you have a real pad. She said you gave her a panty liner.”

I turned bright red — I didn’t even know there was a difference! Thankfully, a kind woman nearby gave her the right thing. When my daughter came back, she thanked both of us and said, “Next time, bring both.”

And ever since then, I do.
