The shepherd dog was begging for food from people

He walked for a long time along winding paths, then veered toward an old, long-abandoned house at the edge of the park. Through the rotten windows and the collapsed roof, we could see that someone was inside.

The dog entered with the bag in its mouth, and we heard a man’s weak voice.

When we looked inside, we saw a man — thin, with an exhausted face, and his leg roughly wrapped in rags, struggling to move.

The shepherd approached him and gently emptied all the food from the bag right in front of his hands. The man looked at the dog as if he were seeing the only friend he had in the world.

The man told us that, a few weeks ago, one night, he witnessed a pack of stray dogs attacking this shepherd.

He didn’t hesitate to intervene — he chased them away, but one of the dogs managed to bite him badly in the leg. Since then, he hadn’t been able to walk properly, and with no place to live, he took shelter in that abandoned house.

The shepherd, as if he understood that the man couldn’t feed himself, began from that day to approach people with the bag and bring all the food back. He didn’t eat a single crumb — he gave everything to his rescuer.

Our hearts were deeply touched. We helped the man out of the abandoned house, called the medics, they treated his wound, and we found him a temporary shelter.

As for the shepherd, we bought him a big bag of food, gave him water and a meal. At last, he allowed himself to eat — for the first time in many days.

But the whole time we were there, he didn’t leave the man’s side for a single moment.
